Calendar 2009

What a priviledge it is to be part of the Nehemiah project. For those who don't know, this project is about a bunch of us Brazilians who live in the US, and similar to the Nehemiah character in the Bible...we owe not only to the Country that we now live in and love (the USA), but also owe to the country where we came from "Brazil". The Nehemiah project was born at the heart of our friend Glaucia Cabral, which today sponsors a great part of an orphanage in Brazil. As many of Glaucia's ideas, this end of the year calendar will raise funds for the street kids in Brazil. Glaucia is an amazing leader who drags everyone behind her to get things done, and so once again a group of us spent the whole day last Saturday cooking and photographing, well OK I must admit, I just photographed and ate like a king. Here are the shots, and how we went about creating them...

We had enougth day light in the house, so for this shot of the turkey above we turned all indoor lights off, and with the white balance set to tungstein, covered my speedlight with an orange filter (on the lightstand thru umbrella). The christimas tree and the fireplace had to be blurred, so the depth of field was just enouth for the turkey.

The strogonoff about was with the existing lamp light. Camera on tripod.

For the famous "feijoada" above, I placed the flash thru the umbrella 45 degrees towards the camera. Note the shadow coming towards the camera.

Smoke! In order to see the smoke coming up from the cod fish cooking, the light also needs to be coming towards the camera.

To order a calendar drop me an e-mail by the end of November/2008.
100% of the funds will go the the "Nehemiah Project".
